Baby Madness!

Mini-Van Dan...

Okay, my husband and I have a joke when we see a man driving a minivan..we call him Minivan Dan! I even have a whole song that goes along with it, but i wont do that to you!

Whenever we saw a minivan Dan, he was driving his van like a race car! He generally looked pissed off, overweight and miserable...

Why is it when we're young, we say "I'd never drive a minivan"! With such conviction too...What is the image about it we don't like? Is it the stained cloth seats, smelly food bags that were never thrown away, the dirt smashed into the floor, lack of ventilation from smelly siblings??? Or, is it more about what you have to let go of when your a parent?

When I was in College, and Jason and I were thinking about our future family, I swore I'd never drive a minivan...Everyone told me I'd get over it someday...Well, that someday is now! I actually love the idea of one now! So convenient for little kids..the built in DVD player, the sliding doors with a press of a button...what could be better? HAHA! Pily, you were right! I've crossed over!

Back to the minivan Dan thing though...Does it kinda represent everything that you never thought your life would be?...and then there you are, driving carpool in your van. Like everyone else! Does the "Minivan Dan" represent this taboo image of parenthood that no one talks about? I think women are okay with it, but are men?

Seriously though, I'm not passing judgment, just writing what we all think, yet never say! And why haven't they made a Hybrid minivan anyway?

I'll be getting one when they make em Hybrid! HAHA!!!

The American Marketing Machine...

Do you feel like you've been marketed to for so long, its hard to find your footing? As a woman, I often feel like companies prey on us as "easy" targets because we buy into the whole "white picket fence" dream. Lets be honest, I've heard TOO many women say things like "I have my son & daughter and Golden Retriever..just waiting on my fence to be painted white, and my life is pretty perfect"! HAHA! I call Bullshit! Is this really what happiness looks like now? Have we been marketed to for so long, we don't really accept anything that looks "different" than this? Do women strive for a family picture that looks straight out of a Sears catalog?

In modern day living, we assume we are all trying to be "open minded", accepting of adopted children, blended families and same sex marriages...but are we? Doesn't this go against how we are marketed to?

My point is that however a family looks, shouldn't we be blessed just to have one?

What is the craziest thing someone has said to you about having boys?

I'm often asked if we will have another baby to try for a girl...this makes my skin crawl! And more recently, I was told "boys are your until they find a wife, and girls are yours forever"...Oh Boy! How silly! Maybe I was meant to live in the 1800's..but I think the bond between a mother and son is amazing! Its unfortunate when mothers view their sons as no longer "theirs" when they marry. Isn't this what we want for our boys? To marry & have a family of their own to enjoy. Why is it always about a mother loosing something? We have kids so they can live THEIR OWN lives! And my favorite "crazy" moment was when a woman said to me "I'd kill myself if I had boys!". WoW! How sad! Too bad she didn't have boys! HAHA
